HOW WE WORK
“How you do the work is the work.”
Our Advisors remind us that outcomes are determined by the integrity of the process. Unfortunately, it remains uncommon to compensate practitioners for their time and insights. At Reckon With, expert evaluation is vital to our process. We are committed to financially resourcing the movement leaders who share insights and feedback on our work.

Resourcing Philosophy
A core value of Reckon With’s operating philosophy is that the brilliance, energy and time of those who Reckon With seeks feedback from is honored. Our work cannot grow healthily without consistent communal interaction and support. We’re also aware of the legacy of white people demanding knowledge from BIPOC people without acknowledgement or compensation. We aim to disrupt this legacy.
All advisors are resourced for their time and contributions. We use the term ‘resourced’ intentionally - feedback from an advisor helped us reframe our terminology from compensation (inherently capitalist framework) to resourcing (more expansive, invites conversation and imagination to identify what truly honors someone’s time).
*
To date, 40% of Reckon With’s investments have gone directly to practitioners and BIPOC-led justice organizations.
Some resourcing takes the form of financial contributions to BIPOC-led justice efforts that practitioners choose. Some practitioners choose direct financial compensation. Rates range from $50 to $125 per hour and are reached through conversation with each practitioner. We consider what feels in line with Reckon With’s needs, the practitioner’s expertise, industry rates etc.
